South Africa Is Getting Faster — Much Faster
South Africa's internet is changing quickly - and the numbers are impressive.
According to ICASA's 2026 State of the ICT Sector Report, average mobile broadband download speeds have increased from 30.36 Mbps in 2022 to 65.7 Mbps in 2026.
That's more than double in just four years.
Fixed broadband has also improved, increasing from 28.63 Mbps to 48.34 Mbps over the same period.
And we're using it.
South Africa now has an estimated 51.7 million internet users, representing almost 80% of the population.
Even more interesting? There were approximately 127 million active cellular connections in South Africa at the end of 2025 — nearly twice the country's population. That's because many people use multiple SIM cards, phones and connected devices.
